Pick for a role, not a hero
Every team needs frontline, damage, and some form of crowd control or peel. Before you lock a hero, check what your team is missing and fill that gap. A clean composition beats five strong picks that all want to do the same job.
Answer the biggest threat
Identify the enemy hero most likely to carry, usually a fed marksman or a mobile assassin, and pick something that shuts them down: burst to delete a squishy, crowd control to lock a diver, or sustain and armor to outlast poke. You do not need a hard counter, just a pick that makes their game harder.
Quick tips
- Last pick is power: hold your strongest counter for the end of the draft.
- If you are not sure, pick a flexible hero that works into many comps.
- A second tank usually beats a fifth damage hero in solo queue.
- Ban the hero you personally lose to most, not just the popular ban.
